Services – Accomplishing Our Mission - Ryan Belk Weekly Contact
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Belk,
The last two weeks of GPT service for Ryan have focused on improving his overall situation in Geometry class, which had been an early concern for you and to record and complete all of Ryan’s homework for once. Our plan was to have Ryan send us a weekly email on Monday nights to assure that he was invested and understood what was due that week and for Brooke to check over his daily planner while we communicated with his teachers from the home office about homework assignments. We also tackled the Geometry situation head-on, involving Mr. Smith and spending extra time reviewing for his geo-quizzes and encouraging Ryan to participate in Mr. Smith’s class.
Overall, Ryan is really improving his attitude and situation in Geometry class. Mr. Smith seems to be truly impressed by our stepped-up efforts in preparation and his participation in class. Brooke convinced Ryan to use his study period during the day to check in with Mr. Smith and we believe that this has really shown Mr. Smith that Ryan is consciously trying to improve his grade.
We are working so hard to encourage and reward Ryan for bringing his homework planner home completely full of the day’s assignments. It has been one of our missions for the semester and although we are improving, I still believe we have a long way to go. Although we frequently catch what Ryan has missed through conversations with teachers and online homework posting, it is important to show Ryan that this is a quality that he must have as he continues Middle School next year and goes to HS in 2010. I would love to talk with either of you later on this week with some ideas we came up with about helping him improve his consistency, and see if you guys had any ideas of your own about it or had found something we’re doing to work better than other things.
I think this has been generally a fantastic week for Ryan and Brooke, they both deserve great praise for the improvement in Geometry. Ryan seems happy and excited as ever about tutoring and school,
Best,
Fernando.
